"All children are artists, the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up" - Pablo Picasso.
The art department has been encouraging the budding artists to do the following creative activities.
Children have been given opportunities to specialize in imaginative topics.
Colouring and line drawing for classes I and II.
Water colouring for classes III and above.
Children have been specializing in mediums of their interest like Oil Painting, Acrylic on Canvas, Glass painting, Clay modeling, craft works etc.
Work Education classes are open to classes VI to XII for specializing in their interesting areas.
To keep in pace with the contemporary needs, art classes have been introducing new styles, new mediums and new methods.
The children have taken part in many external and internal competitions and won laurels for the school. As part of Silver Jubilee of the School, the Art Department has introduced the Best Outgoing Artist Award (Ever rolling Trophy sponsored by Phoenix Enterprise, Cochin).
CREATIVITY WORKSHOP ON ART
On 24th May 2013, HRS witnessed a colorful day of art. It was a workshop conducted by C.S Jayaram,. A Rtd.English professor and a well known artist. The workshop was about different methods of paintings which includes abstract, ecological, graphic, cubism and impressionism.

Inter-house Art Competitions are organised which attract many participants from the four houses.
Craft work has always been part of the school life of a student. These fun activities help them in discovering any hidden talents earlier in life and also explore their creativity. It also helps in personality development. The Art Department organises an Art & Crafts Workshop to aid in this development. Art exhibitions are also organised every year to showcase the hidden talents of the young and budding artists of HRS.
